English Learning Project
Seeing immigration levels in Winnipeg triple since 2005, as well as an influx of international students in the community, there is a rising number of residents who do not fluently speak English (60% of children in the Pembina Trails school division alone). Many of them are international professionals unrecognized by Canadian standards which are unable to work in their given field, but must complete a comprehensive English test to remain in Canada. This language barrier makes integrating into a new community challenging and hinders the access of services in that community.
The English Learning Project is a 10-week conversational English program for newcomers to Canada. Adults can expect a lesson which will consist of discussing current events around the world and practicing regular, daily interaction style conversation through the use of scripts and role-playing. Children will enjoy creative and interactive lessons involving play, crafts, and conversation. We have 25 available spots in the children’s program. Once those spots are filled children will be put on a waiting list and will be invited to attend if a spot opens up.
